Speaking about the experience, Khanna revealed, “At Mumbai’s NCPA, Ranbir Kapoor, his wife Alia Bhatt, his mother Neetu Singh, and their friend Ayan Mukerji all four of them came to watch our play (Humare Ram). Just for Ranbir’s preparation. Think about how seriously Ranbir Kapoor takes his craft that he went to watch a theatre performance just to understand Ramayan; to see what makes it so powerful.”

Kapoor’s approach highlights a more immersive process as he steps into one of Indian mythology’s most revered characters. Ever since his first look as Lord Ram was unveiled, the film has generated significant interest, with audiences noting both his physical transformation and the effort to embody the character’s essence.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is envisioned as a large-scale cinematic retelling of the ancient epic. The project will be released in two parts and is being positioned as a global spectacle, combining extensive visual effects with a star-driven ensemble.

Joining Kapoor is Sai Pallavi as Sita, while Yash takes on the role of Ravana. The cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, bringing together a mix of actors from across industries.

The film is backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, in association with the eight-time Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. With a strong emphasis on scale and visual storytelling, the makers are aiming to deliver a version of Ramayana that resonates with both domestic and international audiences.

Planned as a two-part release, the first instalment is slated to hit theatres during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027. With production underway and details gradually emerging, the film continues to remain one of the most closely watched projects in the Indian film industry.
