The trailer of Raja Shivaji, backed by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, has generated significant attention online since its release on April 20. Headlined, written, directed and produced by Riteish Deshmukh, the historical film is based on the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of Hindavi Swarajya.
Soon after the trailer launch, several celebrities from Hindi and Marathi cinema shared their reactions on social media, praising the scale and presentation of the upcoming film. Actor Akshay Kumar wrote, “Massive shoutout to my friend, @riteishd for acting, writing, directing and producing Raja Shivaji... a story so deeply rooted in our history. It takes passion to dream it, and even more to bring it alive. Sundi... wishing you nothing but blockbuster success!”
Filmmaker Karan Johar kept it brief and posted, “Superb!!!!! @riteishd @geneliad”. Acclaimed filmmaker Nagraj Manjule commented, “Manapurvak abhinandan!! Bhaari!!” while director Aditya Sarpotdar was among those who also appreciated the trailer. Director Kookie Gulati wrote, “This is just Incredible!! Blockbuster!!”
Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai shared a longer note, saying, “Imagine if the trailer is so rocking - what will be the film. Just a magical experience in theatres …That’s #RAJASHIVAJI. A film made by writer, director, actor #RITEISHDESHMUKH n produced by Jyoti Deshpande for Jio ..so passionately with full of nationalistic energies. I can see... The film also features a large ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte and Genelia Deshmukh.
Presented by Jio Studios, Raja Shivaji is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the Mumbai Film Company banner. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 1, 2026, in Marathi and Hindi.
