Veteran producer Moti Sagar has shared his views on the first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama in the upcoming film Ramayana, expressing optimism about the project while maintaining that it is too early to draw conclusions. He is the son of the late filmmaker and producer Ramanand Sagar, who made the classic Doordarshan TV series Ramayan.
The makers recently unveiled the film’s first look during a multi-city launch held on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, generating significant attention across audiences and the film industry. The teaser offered an initial glimpse into the film’s large-scale visual treatment and Kapoor’s transformation into the revered character, sparking widespread discussion online.
Reacting to the glimpse, Moti Sagar, acknowledged Kapoor’s acting abilities and expressed confidence in his performance. “I expect something very good from Ramayana as he is one of the best actors we have today when it comes to performances and emotional depth. He is such a class actor,” he said. However, he also added a note of caution, stating, “You cannot judge anything from this teaser.”
Elaborating further, Sagar noted that Kapoor likely approached the role with considerable depth and preparation. “He must have gone very deep into this character. I would prefer to watch the complete film before making a final assessment,” he stated, adding that he has high expectations from the project.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
Produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the two-part film is scheduled for a global IMAX release, with Part 1 slated for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 for Diwali 2027.
