Veteran actor Zeenat Aman recently shared an emotional account of witnessing the mass hatching of Olive ridley sea turtle hatchlings during a visit to Goa, describing the experience as deeply moving and unforgettable. Alongside reflecting on the rare natural moment, she also raised concerns about environmental degradation in the coastal state and urged authorities to act urgently.
Taking to social media, Zeenat Aman recounted how she walked down to the beach after sunset and encountered a group gathered to observe the hatchlings emerging from nests laid weeks earlier by female turtles. She described how members of the Goa forest department carefully loosened the sand to help the newborn turtles begin their instinctive journey toward the sea.
Reflecting on the fragile survival chances of the hatchlings, she wrote that only a small fraction is expected to make it to adulthood and that those that survive still face threats such as pollution, trawling activity, beach erosion, and weakening ecosystems.
Calling the experience deeply emotional, the actor wrote that witnessing the hatchlings make their way into the ocean left a lasting impression on her. She also connected the moment to a broader reflection on compassion and humanity, stating that feeling connected to the natural world can help people hold on to empathy in difficult times.
At the same time, Zeenat Aman expressed concern about environmental conditions in Goa. Referring to reports about water contamination in rivers and coastal areas, she said it was tragic to learn that parts of the state’s waters are considered unfit for swimming and fishing.

In her post, she appealed directly to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to prioritise environmental protection in the region. She urged authorities to address ecological damage before the state risks losing the natural beauty that makes it distinctive.
