Shahid Kapoor opens up about Farzi Season 2; says ‘it’s a level up’ as he returns as Sunny

At the grand Amazon Prime Video slate announcement event ‘It All Starts Here’ held in Mumbai, Shahid Kapoor officially confirmed that Farzi Season 2 is underway, sending fans into a frenzy. The announcement comes after prolonged anticipation surrounding the return of one of Prime Video’s most popular Indian originals.

The event saw the presence of the entire core team, including creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, along with co-star Raashii Khanna. As the streaming platform confirmed the new season, Shahid shared his excitement about reprising his role as Sunny. “I’ve been waiting to start season two for the last two years, and I’m so excited that it is finally happening. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. We’ve already started shooting, and this is one of the favourite characters I have ever played. It is my favourite show," he said.

Hinting at what lies ahead, the actor added, “And whatever they have taken me through sounds like a level up from the first season, but it also feels very much like a natural progression of the story."

The first season of Farzi emerged as a breakout hit, blending crime, drama, and dark humor while exploring the world of counterfeiting. Shahid’s portrayal of Sunny—a small-time artist pulled into the dangerous world of fake currency—was widely appreciated for its layered intensity and relatability.

Season 2 is expected to push the narrative further into darker territory. The story will continue to follow Sunny, now deeply entrenched in the counterfeit network, as he navigates a far more dangerous game. At the same time, Michael, played by Vijay Sethupathi, remains relentless in his pursuit, despite being cut off from the system. The evolving conflict between the two characters is set to unfold against a larger conspiracy that threatens to destabilize India’s financial ecosystem. The ensemble cast also includes Kay Kay Menon, Bhuvan Arora, Zakir Hussain, and Kubbra Sait, all of whom are expected to reprise their roles.

Backed by D2R Films and helmed by Raj & DK along with Suman Kumar and Tusshar Seyth, the series continues to promise a gripping blend of thrills, character drama, and social commentary. With production already underway, Farzi Season 2 is shaping up to be one of the most awaited OTT releases in the coming months.
