Actor Sneha Ullal recently reflected on the comparisons she faced with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan during the early years of her career, revealing that the two once met in person and shared a warm interaction.
Ullal made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in the 2005 film Lucky: No Time for Love, and soon drew widespread attention for her striking resemblance to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The comparisons became a frequent talking point in the media and among audiences at the time.
Speaking about the moment she first met the former Miss World at a public event, Ullal recalled feeling hesitant initially but eventually deciding to greet her. She said, “At first I thought I should avoid going up to her, but then I went and said hi.” The actress added that Rai Bachchan responded with warmth and respect, making the encounter memorable for her. Ullal also addressed the long-standing comparisons between them, explaining that while she admires Rai Bachchan’s work, she hopes to be recognised for her own identity. “I am a big admirer of Aishwarya Rai for her work and achievements,” she said, adding that she would rather be known for her own performances than her resemblance to another star.
Over the years, Ullal has maintained that the comparisons did not affect her personally. In earlier interviews, she suggested that the narrative around their similar looks was amplified by publicity strategies. “I am so comfortable in my own skin and all those comparisons didn’t bother me,” she had said.
Born in Muscat, Oman, Ullal later moved to Mumbai and entered films at a young age. After her Hindi debut, she went on to appear in Telugu cinema with films such as Ullasamga Utsahamga and Simha. Although the early comparisons shaped public perception of her career, Ullal has repeatedly emphasised her admiration for Rai Bachchan while continuing to carve her own path in the film industry.
