Aamir Khan said, “We used to live together like a family during the shoot. The kind of memories I have of Lagaan are unforgettable. Ek jo mahaul bana tha with the people of Kutch, Indian actors, British actors, etc. The three worlds collided and it made for a beautiful experience.”

He also said, “We used to go to the shoot locations in a bus. On the second day, the team left me behind!” Pradeep Rawat clarified, “We didn’t leave you behind. You were late.” Aamir justified, “I was just two minutes late. I came running and I saw the bus going away. I wondered, ‘Bus toh chali gayi lekin lead actor toh yahin reh gaya’!”

Aamir Khan then revealed, “Akhilendra ji used to play ‘Gayatri Mantra’ in the bus. Some people wanted to play English songs. But I insisted that we should hear the ‘Gayatri Mantra’. For 6 months, every day in the morning, we used to reach the location listening to ‘Gayatri Mantra’. There was not a break of a single day. It helped us be in a meditative state of mind. The whole bus used to be silent. It used to be dark as the sun had not risen. And we used to listen to ‘Gayatri Mantra’ while on our way.”

Akhilendra Mishra added, “Yeh hai ‘Gayatri Mantra’ ki shakti!”

Aamir’s gesture wins hearts

Aamir Khan entered the screen before the film ended. Ensuring that no one would be disturbed by his presence, he bent down and sat in the aisle. He quietly saw the climax and also had tears in his eyes.

As soon as the credits rolled, he rose up and the audience was stunned to see that the superstar had already arrived.
