In the new hard-hitting film The Accused, directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, Konkona Sen Sharma plays a gynaecologist accused of predatory conduct. What makes the film particularly interesting is that Konkona is paired opposite a female actor. She stars alongside Laapataa Ladies actress Pratibha Ranta, with the two playing a lesbian couple.
Their relationship is normalized from the very beginning. It is not the focus of the plot; instead, the narrative centres on the protagonist’s alleged misconduct. With Konkona and Pratibha leading the film, we see a relationship tested not just by accusation, but by doubt itself.
Says Konkona, “My character, Geetika, is a woman used to control — of her work, her credibility, her space. What moved me was her internal collapse under scrutiny. I’m glad Netflix is bringing a story like this to audiences, one that trusts performance and silence over spectacle.”
