Trade veteran Taran Adarsh felt that the release timing was a major factor. He revealed, “5 days before the release, I called Dharma Productions’ team and requested that they postpone the release. I told them, ‘There’s a strong Dhurandhar wave. You still have time. Even if you get the screens, you won’t get the audience’. When I saw the film, I told Kartik Aaryan that he made a mistake by coming amid the Dhurandhar wave.”

He added, “When I look back, I feel that the release period was also wrong, but so was the content. If it had been released during some other time, even then it would have not worked. Yes, Dhurandhar has sidelined all the competition, including Avatar: Fire And Ash. It’s made by such a reputed Hollywood director and yet, it had a tough time. The first choice for the audience is Dhurandhar followed by Avatar and then Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal exulted, “What do you think has gone right with this film? Everything went wrong. Both the title and music were average. People were expecting a crackling chemistry between Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. But that didn’t happen. The film opened to a decent number and it could have worked if the reports were on its side.”

He added, “Without Dhurandhar, this film would have 100% done better business. Even Avatar: Fire And Ash got affected. For the first time, a big Hollywood film didn’t get reasonable shows. Usually, such foreign biggies get preference by the multiplexes over Hindi films. But this time, everyone was of the belief that Dhurandhar would fetch better numbers and that’s what has happened.”

Girish Johar, producer and eminent film business analyst, explained, “The trailer couldn’t catch on. The music was not up to the mark and the same goes for the direction of the film. The audience could not connect to the sensitivity of the subject clearly. Even the performances weren’t that great. I am a huge Kartik Aaryan fan. He’s one of the rising stars of the industry and he has proved it in the past. But he probably just about missed the bus with this film.”

He also agreed, “Without Dhurandhar, it would have got a breathing space and done 10-15% better business on the release day. But the content would have remained the same and hence, it would have still underperformed.”

Meanwhile, Atul Mohan stated, “If the film was good, it would have found an audience despite Dhurandhar. Jawan came less than a month after Gadar 2 and yet, both films found an audience. So, if the film has positive reports, the audience has no qualms watching it.”

When asked why the film didn’t work, he replied, “Kartik has a fan following, but the chemistry between the leads was missing. Moreover, it’s a routine film. The audience of today has different tastes. Every filmmaker wants his film to appeal to the college-going crowd; they are the ones who watch the first day first show. If they give thumbs up, the film stands a high chance. They need something hatke or something which is executed with panache. This applies to all the films which have worked this year. And if you want to make routine stuff, then you need it go one level up.”

He further explained, “Saiyaara is a routine love story, but Mohit Suri knew how to present it correctly. Chhaava and Dhurandhar were different and nicely packaged. The controversy further helped the film.”

Taran Adarsh exulted, “I strongly feel that when a film unleashes a tsunami, it's best to shift to another date. There should be no ego at all. You have spent so much money, time and energy on your film. By moving out, you’ll be assured of a greater number of screens. In the case of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, its distributors were struggling for screens until the last minute. And when the film was released, it got ignored. Those who came to see the film didn’t speak highly of it. Hence, the period as well as the content let it down.”

He continued, “Both Kartik and Ananya were very good. But if the content doesn’t hold, everything else falls like a pack of cards.”
