In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Madhuri Dixit reflected on the qualities that defined her generation of actors—especially the fearlessness needed to thrive in an industry that constantly placed them in the public eye.
“We were taught to be fearless”
When asked whether her generation operated with a different level of boldness, Madhuri agreed without hesitation. “Yes. I mean we were taught to be fearless, because at that time, you could not be scared of anything. The profession is such, you have to be out there. And it's like you're in the public eye all the time. So, you are open to all the sorts of things. Good, bad, ugly, so we learnt to live with that.”
Her words highlighted how the early years of her career demanded resilience, especially during a time when actors had far fewer filters separating their work from public opinion.
Handling Criticism with Grace
Madhuri also spoke about her approach to criticism—something every public figure encounters but not everyone navigates with the same balance.
“Well, criticism is always, sometimes you get a little mad (at) people criticizing you, but ultimately it boils down to constructive criticism. If it's a constructive criticism, you give it your time and you say okay, this was said, and I agree with somethings and I don't agree with other things. So, you move on after that.”
Her perspective reflected a maturity shaped by decades in the spotlight: acknowledging emotions, filtering what matters, and letting the rest go.
