The actor–producer traces the long development journey of the sports drama series Real Kashmir Football Club set against the backdrop of Srinagar.

Actor, producer, and entrepreneur Vishakha Singh is set to take on dual responsibilities in Sony LIV’s recently released series Real Kashmir Football Club. Known for her roles in Fukrey, Ankur Arora Murder Case, Bajatey Raho, Rowdy Fellow, and Pidichirukku, Singh has also established herself as a producer backing unconventional narratives. With this project, she steps in as Executive Producer while also featuring in the cast.

Singh, who originated the rights to the story and developed the series over several years, recalled what first drew her to the material. “My journey with Real Kashmir Football Club began in 2019… A club that became a symbol of hope in a region too often associated with conflict,” she shared. The series marks a rare football-centric drama set in Kashmir and features her as the only female producer on the project.

The development process, she said, was far from straightforward. Singh spoke about the creative and logistical challenges, delays due to the pandemic, and the loss of club co-founder Sandeep Chattoo. “But when the universe tests you, it also sends you the right support,” she noted, acknowledging producer Kilian Kerwin, Jaya Entertainment, and the RKFC community for helping sustain the project. She linked her commitment to the show with her own experiences. “I have always been drawn to underdog stories because, in many ways, I have been one myself… Whatever little I have achieved has come from showing up, learning on the go, and backing myself when no one else did.”

In the series, Singh plays Kaveri Khemu, described as “a mental-health proponent and the only non-Kashmiri female character in the narrative.” She added, “My role in the series is small but meaningful… She runs Khushi Trust in Srinagar, an organisation that supports the emotional well-being of the region’s youth, women, and men.” Singh shared that her experience building companies and leading creative teams has shaped her approach. “As a producer or start-up founder, the stakes are higher… That shift has changed me as a person; I am calmer and more centred,” she said, adding that managing both acting and producing “gave me clarity.”

She also spoke about working with actors Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Kaul. “Zeeshan has a calm, natural ease… and Manav brings this spontaneous, childlike energy that instantly lifts the scene,” she recalled, highlighting a moment involving a video call sequence that remained memorable. According to Singh, such interactions add authenticity to the series.

Real Kashmir Football Club continues her interest in stories of resilience and community, with Singh noting the decision to focus on football and the Kashmir setting as a deliberate creative choice.
