Piyush Mishra has never been one to mince words, and in a recent interview with Curly Tales, the acclaimed actor and writer opened up about what he sees as an increasingly over-the-top culture of entourages and attitude among the younger generation of stars. Mishra spoke candidly about the “hang-ups” he has observed, expressing disbelief at the scale of staff some actors travel with. According to him, the trend has reached a point where practicality has taken a backseat to image-building.

“People live in hang-ups, they have a lot of tantrums. Their entourage is so long. Almost 8-9 people will come with them, they will walk with at least 12 bodyguards but why do you need these many bodyguards? You are a single person. Who is coming to kill you?” Mishra remarked, highlighting how excessive these arrangements often seem. He added that while he himself travels with just one assistant and one make-up artist, some actors rely on multiple support staff for even the simplest tasks. “What is the need for so many people – one person is to drink with you. One is to give you a drink, one is to comb your hair, one is to do your makeup. So I don’t understand the meaning behind this,” he said.
The actor, however, made it a point to praise Ranbir Kapoor, with whom he worked on Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha. Mishra recalled that Kapoor was refreshingly grounded despite his superstardom. “Ranbir ghazab hai (he is awesome). He doesn’t have any tantrums because he knows he’s such a big star. He has no hang-ups. He is my favourite actor,” he shared. Mishra further clarified that he had never witnessed Ranbir behaving unreasonably or acting pricey on set.
In a striking revelation, Mishra also described the extent of luxury some stars demand in their vanity setups. “I know certain actors who have six makeup vans. It’s mandatory. The first van is his personal space… Then, next to that is saab’s other van, wahan pe saab makeup and hair karte hain (that’s for hair and makeup). Uske baaju mein is the van jahan saab meetings karte hain (another van where they do the meetings),” he said. He continued with an example of a fourth van dedicated entirely to workouts, complete with trainers, assistants, drivers and maintenance staff — a setup that results in an entourage swelling to dozens of people for a single actor.
Interestingly, Mishra is not alone in highlighting this extravagant side of stardom. Over the years, several filmmakers, senior actors and technicians have openly spoken about the elaborate entourages that accompany today’s stars, often overshadowing the simplicity that earlier generations were known for.
Mishra’s latest remarks once again shine a spotlight on the evolving culture within the industry — one that continues to spark debate about professionalism, practicality and the pressures of modern-day celebrity life.
