Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sharib Hashmi, producers Manish Malhotra and Dinesh Malhotra, director Vibhu Puri and music composer-cum-filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj graced the launch of their film Gustaakh Ishq at a multiplex in Mumbai. The film is based on simple and sweet love with a dash of shayaris and the team of the film spoke about these aspects and a lot more.
Vijay Varma has played several villainous roles. The host remarked that recently Manish Malhotra and Shabana Azmi called him hot. Vijay laughed about it and said, “I had got such negative and grey roles. Hence, when I got that compliment, I was very happy. I have been used to people praising my acting. To be objectified for the first time was heartening. I encourage it; it should happen more!”
Who was Vijay’s first love? The actor wittily and jokingly replied, “My first love was fruit cake in Karachi Bakery, Hyderabad! When I had that in my childhood, tab mujhe beintehaa pyaar hua tha. I was wondering what I should do (to get access to those cakes). I even wondered if the owners of the bakery had a daughter and if I could marry her! Then, I would get a chance to have that cake every day!”
He added, “My first and only love is the work that I do. Mera kaam hi meri dulhan hai!”
Vijay Varma was asked about changing the definition of love. He replied, “Now, we have a tag for everything. If your partner is silent, he’s accused of ghosting! Agar kisi ne kuch bol diya toh toxic ho gaya. Instead of understanding and accepting something, we tend to immediately tag and move on in life. Earlier, silence ka ek mazaa hota tha. Intezaar ka ek mazaa hota tha. There was joy in meeting and also in not meeting. All that is missing now. However, what is common is romance, and also your heart beating faster. Bas uska zariya badal gaya hai.”
Gustaakh Ishq releases in cinemas on November 28.
