In the ’90s, Shilpa Shirodkar dazzled audiences with hits like Hum, Aankhen, and Pehchaan, but following her 2000 film Gaja Gamini, she quietly withdrew from the limelight. Now, after spending years away from the film industry, Shilpa has shared insights into her unconventional path.

On Gauahar Khan’s podcast, MaaaNoranjan, Shilpa candidly described her transition from the film industry to a quieter life abroad after marrying banker Aparesh Ranjit. The couple first relocated to the Netherlands and later settled in New Zealand. “To keep myself busy, I did a hairdressing course in New Zealand. It felt connected to acting in some way—with makeup and beauty and all that,” Shilpa shared.

She worked in a salon for two months, but the long hours conflicted with her life as a newlywed. What followed might seem like a scene from a movie. With no corporate background, Shilpa asked her husband to create her resume.

She laugh and stated, “I told him, ‘Make my resume.’ He asked, ‘What should I put in it?’ I said, ‘Don’t lie—just put the truth, even SSC fail and my film work.” What began as a lighthearted experiment quickly became a turning point. She received two job offers in one day and accepted a role as a credit controller at Dun & Bradstreet, entering an entirely new field.

But life had different plans. Shortly after starting her job, she began feeling constantly tired. A friend jokingly suggested she might be pregnant. She took a test, which surprisingly came back positive. Her pregnancy brought challenges like insulin injections and weight loss, but she faced them with optimism. Shilpa ultimately decided to devote herself entirely to motherhood, welcoming her daughter Anushka and stepping even further away from the limelight.
