Irrfan Khan is known for intense performances as that’s the kind of roles he did in the initial years. His performances in films like Haasil, Maqbool, Slumdog Millionaire, New York etc. slotted him in a certain genre despite the fact that he occasionally did light-hearted roles like Sunday, Life In A Metro, Krazzy 4 etc. He then did more such roles but yet, a love story eluded him. Finally, he got to romance a bit in Piku, opposite Deepika Padukone. But again, it wasn’t a love story as such.

The wait is finally over for Irrfan Khan thanks to the upcoming film Qarib Qarib Singlle, in which he’ll be seen romancing Southern actress Parvathy. In an interview, the talented performer revealed that when he began his career, he didn’t think that he’ll be offered love stories. He admitted that he had a burning desire to make such films and he was convinced that he’ll become an actor but never get a chance to do love stories. He praised Shoojit Sircar for imagining him first in a romantic setup, in Piku.

Irrfan Khan also revealed that he’s romantic but he is not able to express his love. He manages to take it out through his characters all the love that he has bottled up inside. Much of it, it seems, stems from the fact that he was born in a conventional family, where members of opposite sex being friends was an alien concept – it’s either love or marriage. He even tells that he was angry when he found out that his sister is having an affair. He wanted to kill her sister’s boyfriend but then he realized that he was conditioned according to the societal norms. He’s glad to announce that Qarib Qarib Singlle is progressive as the film treats opposite gender as an equal.

Qarib Qarib Singlle is directed by Tanuja Chandra and releases on November 10.
