She is known for her films, fashion, her views and has quite a fan following in India, Pakistan and the south Asian diaspora around the globe. She is a talented, extraordinary woman but unfortunately masses refuse to see that as they concentrate on other irrelevant things associated with the actor. If you don't know what we are referring to then you obviously don’t know about her pictures with Ranbir Kapoor where she was just hanging out with the actor, smoking on the streets of New York. Well, this was blown out of proportion and Mahira was slut shamed for wearing a backless dress and smoking! Ludicrous, isn’t it? Well, another video of the actor has gone viral recently where she is puffing backstage before an event.

Twitter is a bit calmer this time. In fact it is heartening to see many women and men coming out in support of the actor. Some girls even volunteered to pose with a cigarette just to extend support to the artiste. Now, that’s reassuring. Popular view on Twitter as put up by one user was, “How is it anyone’s business whether #mahirakhan smokes or not? Smoking is a personal choice. Get a life. What is condemnable is the loser who made the sneaky video”. Another influencer wrote, “Once again, Mahira Khan is being attacked on social media for some photos of her smoking, because it's only an objectionable health risk when women do it.”

Recently, Mahira Khan opened up about this controversy and told media how she felt that her privacy was breached and violated. She was disturbed after that incident and it took her lot of time to be okay. Hope the internet learns the lesson from last time and changes its sexist ways.
