en Bollywood News Gold vs Satyameva Jayate, Raees vs Kaabil and 5 other instances when films clashed at the Box-Office!

Two films releasing on the same day is something that happens frequently in this industry, and the history is full of examples wherein the deserving film has done better business. This Independence Day will see the clash of two films i.e. Gold and Satyameva Jayate at the Box-Office. Gold starring Akshay Kumar in lead is a sport drama that chronicles the journey of Independent India's first ever Gold Medal win, Satyameva Jayate starring John Abraham is an action entertainer that narrates the story of a police officer's fight against the corrupt system. Both the films appeal to different set of audience in India, and the market has enough screens in place to accommodate two releases during the Holiday period.

Gold vs Satyameva Jayate, Raees vs Kaabil and 5 other instances when films clashed at the Box-Office!

This decade, a lot of films have clashed at the ticket window, however the significant ones are:

1. Golmaal Again vs Secret Superstar

Last Diwali, Aamir Khan's content driven film Secret Superstar clashed with Ajay Devgn's comic caper Golmaal Again at the Box-Office. As expected, it was Golmaal Again that emerged victorious at the Box-Office and proved to be the biggest hit of Ajay Devgn's career. Secret Superstar, which featured Aamir Khan in an extended cameo, on the other hand was an average grosser.

2. Shivaay vs Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

This was one clash wherein things went ugly, as the producers of both the films i.e. Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar, entered into a battle of words. While Shivaay was an action thriller, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a mature love story starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai. It was a battle of equals however in the long run, it is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that proved to be a winner. The Karan Johar directorial was termed a hit, whereas Ajay Devgn starrer was an unsuccessful venture at the Box-Office.

3. Raees vs Kaabil

The Republic Day 2017 weekend saw the clash between Raees and Kaabil at the Box-Office. Although Raees collected more than Kaabil at the ticket window, neither of the two films proved to be clean hits and the business of both was hampered because of the clash. Raees starred Shah Rukh Khan in lead whereas Kaabil was led by Hrithik Roshan. Even during this clash, things took an ugly turn wherein Rakesh Roshan was upset by the distributors allotting more shows and screens to Raees.

4. Rustom vs Mohenjo Daro

This was one clash wherein everyone was surprised by the results. Mohenjo Daro was one of the most anticipated films of the year as it marked the teaming up for Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowariker after Jodhaa Akhbar. The film however looked poor right since the trailer launch and ended up as one of the biggest flops of Hrithik Roshan's career. Rustom on the other hand was a dramatic thriller starring Akshay Kumar in lead. The movie proved to be a smash hit at the Box-Office and helped Kumar strengthen his standing in the industry.

5. Dilwale vs Bajirao Mastani

Rohit Shetty attempted to get back the era of multi-starrers with Dilwale starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The film had everything going in its favour till the release; however the content didn't live onto the expectations which lead to under-performance at the domestic. Despite a festive release, the film managed to get average verdict at the Box-Office and that too majorly because of the performance of the film abroad. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, Bajirao Mastani on the other hand proved to be a big hit as it ended up collecting more than Dilwale. The film starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in lead.

6. Jab Tak Hai Jaan vs Son of Sardaar:

This was one clash where both the films proved to be hits at the Box-Office, however none of them were able to realize their true potential. While Jab Tak Hai Jaan was an epic romantic saga directed by Yash Chopra, Son of Sardaar was an action entertainer starring Ajay Devgn in lead. Both the films managed to go past the Rs 100 crore mark and it was Jab Tak Hai Jaan which ended up earning more. The romantic film was led by Shah Rukh Khan who was supported by Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.

7. Golmaal 3 vs Action Replay

The Diwali 2010 clash between Golmaal 3 and Action Replay was a one-sided battle wherein Golmaal 3 proved to be a blockbuster whereas Action Replay was an outright flop. Golmaal being a franchise film was the first choice for the audience, and Action Replay on the other hand looked completely outdated from the trailer. The Vipul Shah directorial starred Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai in lead.
