en Bollywood News Sharwanand and Sampath Nandi join forces for 1960s-set Pan-India film Bhogi

The film, which was earlier referred to as Sharwa38, has now been officially titled Bhogi. Shoot is expected to begin on an expansive set in Hyderabad.

Actor Sharwanand and director Sampath Nandi have officially launched their much-awaited collaboration with the film Bhogi, a Pan-India project mounted on a large scale. Produced by KK Radhamohan under the Sri Sathya Sai Arts banner and presented by Lakshmi Radhamohan, Bhogi is set against the turbulent landscape of the 1960s, and is being described as a gritty, emotionally charged story rooted in conflict and transformation.

The announcement came through a concept video titled ‘First Spark’, which sets the tone for the narrative. In the video, director Sampath Nandi provides a voiceover that alludes to destiny, struggle, and rebirth. As the visuals unfold, Sharwanand’s character is introduced through a symbolic moment where he accepts a sword, marking the beginning of a personal and political journey. The title Bhogi reflects the idea of burning away the past to forge something new, much like the traditional festival it references.

Sharwanand has reportedly undergone a visible physical transformation for the role, which is said to demand both intensity and depth. The film, which also stars Anupama Parameswaran and Dimple Hayathi in key roles, began its principal photography on April 30. The shoot is taking place on a massive set constructed in Hyderabad, where nearly 20 acres of land have been converted into a 1960s-era backdrop. Parts of this elaborate set were also featured in the announcement video.

The makers promise a story rich in visual and emotional detail, set in the North Telangana - Maharashtra region during a time of intense socio-political change. To keep it authentic, sources close to the project revealed that the production team spent the past six months planning and building the film’s world, with Kiran Kumar Manne on board as the art director.

While the cinematographer, music director, and editor are yet to be announced, the team behind Bhogi plans to bring high production value to match its scale. The film will be released in five languages – namely Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi - aiming to reach a broad audience across India. With a vintage setting and a strong narrative at its core, Bhogi is being positioned as more than just a period drama - it is expected to explore timeless themes of identity, resistance, and renewal through a regional lens.
