Rukmini on princess Kanakavathi look in Kantara Chapter 1; says, “We threw it back to Vyjayanthimala in Amrapali”

The trailer for Kantara Chapter 1 has generated widespread attention, with Rukmini’s portrayal of Princess Kanakavathi standing out. Fans have praised her royal presence and styling, which feels authentic to the period and visually striking on screen.

Speaking about the creative process behind the look, Rukmini shared, “With any kind of creative art, I think it's difficult to be entirely fresh; we constantly reference films or art that's come before. One distinct reference that I do remember Pragathi (Shetty), our costume designer, showing me was Vyjayanthimala in Amrapali (1966). We really threw it back to that! Pragathi and her team studied temple sculptures and carvings, since this story is set in the fourth or fifth century where written references are scarce. They worked on everything from the hairstyles to the costumes, and then of course, the makeup and costume teams brought it all together on set every day.”

Following the acclaim for her role as Princess Kanakavathi, Rukmini prepares for her next release, Toxic, starring alongside NTR Jr in Prashanth Neel’s upcoming action film.
