Rashmika Mandanna responds to ‘Release The Girlfriend’ trend; promises updates soon

After months of silence post teaser launch, the director of The Girlfriend too has assured fans that updates are on the way.

Actor Rashmika Mandanna and filmmaker Rahul Ravindran have finally addressed growing fan concerns over the delayed release of their much-anticipated film, The Girlfriend. With no new updates since the teaser was unveiled in December last year, fans took to social media to express their eagerness, trending the hashtag #ReleaseTheGirlfriend across platforms.

In a heartfelt note shared on X (formerly Twitter), Rashmika responded to the fan-driven campaign with gratitude and reassurance. "Hi my lovelies, I know we’ve been making you wait and your trend really is something else... but trust me, Rahul Ravindran is really working on it to give you the best output,” she wrote. Describing the project as “one of the most special kinds of films,” she added, “its a film where we speak about things we generally don’t talk much about.. it’s a pure characters driven film and that’s the beauty of it.. we promise you we want to give you the best and it’ll be worth you while”.

Rashmika further assured her fans that the team is now speeding up the post-production process. “Because of today… for all the love you’ve shown us, we’ll just speed up the process and deliver it to you soonest!” she concluded. Meanwhile, director Rahul Ravindran also took to X to address fans. His brief but clear message read: “Guys… there will be updates soon. Praamise.. Please be a little patient.”

The Girlfriend was officially announced nearly two years ago, and the buzz around the film grew after its teaser release in late 2024. Since then, the silence from the production team had led to speculation and impatience among Rashmika’s fans, many of whom were anticipating a release date announcement.

The film also stars Dheekshith Shetty in a pivotal role. It is backed by producers Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Koppineedi, with Hesham Abdul Wahab composing the music. Krishnan Vasant is handling the cinematography, while Chota K Prasad is in charge of editing.

With the cast and crew now promising updates, fans can expect a renewed push towards the release. Until then, anticipation continues to build for what Rashmika calls a “pure, character-driven” film.
