Ram Gopal Varma is rather amused by the nationwide outrage at SS Rajamouli’s confession of being an atheist at the announcement event of his upcoming film Varanasi.
Said Ramu, “Just because he makes films with a religious undertone, it doesn’t mean he has to be a believer. I’ve made film about ghosts. It doesn’t mean I believe in ghosts: I don’t! In fact, my new film Police Station Mein Bhoot is a ghost story. But I still don’t believe in ghosts. A filmmaker’s personal beliefs should not come into the picture. Rajamouli is a master storyteller. His personal beliefs are nobody’s concern.”
Incidentally Ram Gopal Varma too is an atheist. “But unlike Rajamouli, I’ve never made a film on religion or mythology. I’ve made godless films like Satya and Company,” he said.
