Producer Prerna Arora is thrilled by the success of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1. “At a time when Bollywood productions are biting the dust, and the biggest of Bollywood filmmakers are witnessing empty theatres, the South films are running to packed houses. We Bollywood filmmakers should think about why Hindi audiences prefer Telugu and Kannada films these days,” said Prerna.

She lauded Telugu-Kannada filmmakers for reviving the movie business. “SS Rajamouli sir, Rishab Setty sir, Nag Ashwin and others have revived the all-India movie business with their original and engrossing interpretations of our mythology. They have taken Indian cinema back to its roots, and we should bow our heads in gratitude to these master storytellers.”

Prerna said that she was inspired to produce Jatadhara by her illustrious predecessors. “If it wasn’t for these filmmakers, I wouldn’t dream of making Jatadhara. I signed a Telugu hero Sudheer Babu and plotted my film around a well-known Telugu mythological chapter: the mystery of the unopened door in Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, and it immediately pulled me in. The Andhra government recovered enormous treasure from five of the six vaults, but couldn’t open the sixth one. It is believed to be sealed with a powerful ancient spell called ‘Nagabandhanam’, said to be protected by serpent energy. Jatadhara explores this myth.”

A new song from Jatadhara released on the internet, ‘Pallo Latke’ looks oddly out of place in the mythological context. Sighed Prerna, “I know. The market tells us we need to have some latka jhatka in the film. I am against it. Trust me, we will do nothing to compromise the sanctity of the original mythology, which Jatadhara explores.”
