21 years after its original release, the Telugu film Varsham, starring Prabhas and Trisha Krishnan, has made a grand return to theatres - and fans are making sure it doesn’t go unnoticed. Videos of audiences dancing and cheering during the screening have gone viral on social media, capturing the celebratory atmosphere in theatres across Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and other parts of South India.

For fans of Prabhas, fondly called “Darling” by his admirers, this re-release has turned into a festival. Theatres have witnessed near houseful shows, with fans recreating the 2004 cinematic experience with whistles, and cheering over the chemistry between Prabhas and Trisha in hit songs like ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ and ‘Neeti Mullai’. Several videos circulating online show fans using cell phone flash lights to create a vibe during the screenings.

Directed by Sobhan and produced by M.S. Raju under the Sumanth Art Productions banner, Varsham first hit theatres in January 2004 and quickly became a massive success. Featuring Prabhas, Trisha Krishnan, and Gopichand in lead roles, the film was pivotal in shaping the careers of its stars. With cinematography by S. Gopal Reddy and performances from Prakash Raj and other supporting actors, the film is known for its captivating mix of romance, drama, and action, with a musical score by Devi Sri Prasad that continues to enjoy popularity even today.

Such was Varsham’s popularity that it was remade in Tamil as Mazhai (2005) and in Hindi as Baaghi (2016), both of which found their own fan base.

With the re-release, Varsham is once again drawing attention from both long-time fans and a younger generation discovering the film for the first time. The response proves that some stories, especially ones packed with love, music, and emotion, never lose their magic.
