Telugu-Tamil actress Lakshmi Manchu, fiery and feisty forever, has filed a complaint with the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) against a senior journalist for asking inappropriate questions, which allegedly targeted the actress for her age and clothes.

Lakshmi said the journalist misused the platform to ask inappropriate questions when she was promoting her new film Daksha: The Deadly Conspiracy.

Lakshmi is not the first female hero to be targeted at a press interaction. Several actresses, including Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Katrina Kaif, have faced inappropriate questions garbed as intrepid journalism.

“It is up to you to answer or not answer when a journalist crosses the line. When you know that the person is trying to provoke you to get click-baiting headlines, it is up to you to not fall in the trap,” said Samantha, who is often asked about her health at media events. “They know it is not the place. But they still do.”

Rani Mukerji, who continues to be an active actor, was recently asked if opportunities are created for her as her husband Aditya Chopra happens to be an influential producer. Rani handled the obnoxious question and questionnaire with a laugh and a stern rebuke.

Opined Divya Khossla, “Some media persons tend to cross the line at media events to promote films. It is best to brief them beforehand to stick to questions about the film being promoted.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was once asked at a media interaction her thoughts on nudity. It was a mischievous and provocative question. And she handled it with grace and firmness. “I have never ever explored and lost interest in exploring nudity on sets. I feel I am talking to my gynaecologist. I mean, who am I talking to? You are a journalist. Stick to that.”

Lakshmi Manchu is furious at the intrusive impertinent question posed by the senior journalist. “I have the highest regard for journalism. But you can’t mask cruelty in a journalistic question. I was asked why I was wearing the clothes that I was. Why aren’t the heroes questioned for going bare-chested at 60?”

Taapsee Pannu pointed the role of sexism at media meets. “They never ask the male actors improper questions. It is the female actors who are targeted for this kind of attention.”
