Khushbu Sundar has come out strongly in support of her husband, filmmaker Sundar C, after he became the target of online trolling following his exit from the highly anticipated Thalaivar 173. The project, which had generated massive excitement for bringing Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan together after decades, took an unexpected turn when Sundar C announced his decision to step away. The news invited a flurry of speculation, blame and social media attacks—many of which Khushbu addressed head-on.

When a user questioned whether Sundar C left because Rajinikanth allegedly wanted Khushbu to perform a special number in the film, the actress delivered a sharp rebuttal. “Ile, unga veetule irundhu yaaravadhu aaduvaikkalamnu nenacho (No, we were thinking of roping in someone from your family for that),” she shot back, making it clear she had no patience for such insinuations.

Another comment—which claimed that Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan had thrown Sundar C out due to a “pathetic story narration”—drew an even stronger response. “Yen seruppu size 41, adi vaanga thayaara? (My slipper size is 41. Are you ready to get beaten with it?),” Khushbu replied, refusing to let baseless accusations slide. Her firm tone continued when yet another user alleged that Sundar C was dropped for presenting a “subpar story.” She responded, “And you tweet and raise questions on hearsay?? What a disaster you are.”

The barrage of rumours began after Sundar C’s publicist announced on November 13, 2025, that the director had chosen to withdraw from the project due to “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.” His statement described the decision as “difficult,” especially given the prestige of Thalaivar 173.

The collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan—backed by Raaj Kamal Films International—was expected to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the decade. Naturally, Sundar C’s sudden departure fuelled intense curiosity. Addressing the matter, Kamal Haasan’s production house stated, “Sundar C has explained the reason for his withdrawal from the project through a press release. I don’t have anything to add to it. Until my star is satisfied with the script, we will keep scouting for it. We are currently in the process of finalising a quality script.”

While industry watchers await updates on the future of Thalaivar 173, Khushbu Sundar’s fiery defence has made one thing clear—she is not letting anyone drag her husband or their family into baseless controversy.
