Kamal Haasan recently stirred controversy with his Tamil-Kannada comment during the promotion of Thug Life. His upcoming movie has been banned in Karnataka, and now Karnataka Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has indicated that all of the actor’s films might be banned in the state.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) recently announced that unless Kamal Haasan apologizes for his controversial remark about the Kannada language, they will ban all his films in the state. KFCC president M Narasimhalu stated that theatre owners and film distributors have independently decided not to screen Kamal Haasan’s movie until he issues an apology for his comment that “Kannada was born out of Tamil.”
Speaking to reporters, Shivaraj Tangadagi expressed support for the KFCC’s decision, stating, “I have written a letter. After that, the film chamber of commerce has also taken a good decision and held a press meet yesterday saying that if he doesn't apologise in two days his film will be banned.”
He further added, “I extend my compliments to the film chamber of commerce as the Minister for Kannada and Culture.” When asked whether Haasan’s films would be banned if he fails to apologize, Tangadagi replied, “Yes.”
The minister further stated that they would not permit the film to be shown if he refused to apologize. He also warned that any disrespectful remarks against Kannada language would be unacceptable, and if Kamal Haasan did not apologize, they would take appropriate action.
