Veteran actor Kamal Haasan took to social media platform X to wish celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam on his birthday, offering a heartfelt note that paid tribute to their long-standing creative bond. Along with the message, Haasan also shared a nostalgic photo from the sets of their upcoming film Thug Life.

The note, deeply personal in tone, reflects the decades-long relationship between the two stalwarts who first collaborated on the 1987 classic Nayakan. Their reunion in Thug Life marks one of the most anticipated cinematic events in Indian cinema.
Thug Life is an upcoming Tamil-language gangster drama directed by Mani Ratnam, who also co-wrote the script with Kamal Haasan. The film is jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies. This project marks Haasan’s 234th film as a lead actor and brings him back into the frame with Ratnam after nearly four decades. The ensemble cast includes Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Baburaj, making it one of the biggest pan-India productions currently in the works.
With music composed by Academy Award-winner A. R. Rahman, cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, Thug Life is slated for a theatrical release on June 5, 2025. With two visionaries at the helm, the film has already generated significant buzz and is expected to be a major box office event.
