The producer along with director Venkat Kalyan opened up about the intensive creative process behind the actress’ mystical role, inspired by ancient legends and divine duality.

Sonakshi Sinha is set to take on one of her most striking roles yet with Jatadhara, where she portrays Dhan Pisachani — a character rooted in mythology and spiritual symbolism. Producer Prerna Arora revealed that it took three months of detailed research and creative experimentation to conceptualize Sonakshi’s look for the role, which embodies both divinity and darkness.

Bringing to life one of the most fascinating mythological entities ever depicted on screen, Sonakshi Sinha steps into the role of Dhan Pisachani in Jatadhara — a character born of divine energy, mystery, and cosmic balance. Producer Prerna Arora, who helmed the creative research and visual ideation, shares, “Dhan Pisachani, in the truest sense, is the divine form of energy. While the directors had a certain idea of her look, I visualized her differently. After several discussions, we found a middle ground — making her more cinematic and visually magnetic while staying true to her mythological essence. We spent almost three months researching her aura, jewellery, and overall design to ensure she embodies both grace and power. Pisachani is neither a Goddess nor a Devi — she is an energy that holds both good and evil, beauty and menace, in equal measure.”

The concept of Dhan Pisachani traces back to the legend of Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean), when Lord Shiva consumed the deadly Halahal poison to save the universe. According to mythology, the drops that fell upon the earth gave rise to female entities known as Piśāchanīs. Director Venkat Kalyan added, “We wanted Pisachani to look celestial yet fearsome — a divine force that commands attention. She is not a figure of worship or horror; she represents the duality of creation itself. Her look, her gaze, her aura — everything was designed to make the audience feel both awe and reverence.”

It is being said that costume designer Mohit worked closely with the creative team to ensure every detail of Sonakshi’s transformation felt authentic. With months of research behind the process, each ornament and texture was crafted to reflect the opulence and mysticism associated with Dhan — symbolizing wealth, energy, and balance.

Also starring Sudeep Babu, Shilpa Shirodkar, and Divya Khosla Kumar in key roles, Jatadhara explores the timeless conflict between good and greed. Sonakshi makes her Telugu debut with this fantasy drama and her portrayal of Dhan Pisachani, a being that transcends moral boundaries, promises to offer a unique blend of mythology and cinematic artistry.
