National Award-winning actor and filmmaker Dhanush is gearing up for his next big release, Idli Kadai, and the film already carries a deeply personal stamp from the star. At the recent launch event held in Chennai, Dhanush shared an emotional anecdote from his childhood that inspired the film.

“An idli kadai is a very important aspect of my childhood. We didn’t have any money during our childhood to buy idlis from the idli kadai in our place. So, we started collecting flowers from the fields and sold them for money. My sister, cousins, and I would wake up at 4 am to do this every day so that we can have idlis from that shop. Nothing to this day beats the taste of those 4-5 idlis we bought with our hard-earned money. This film is my tribute to that place,” Dhanush revealed.

The actor further explained how the idea for the film took shape, as he shared, “I thought what would happen if I made a film revolving around an idli kadai. It’s a story not only about that one store but inspired by the whole village I grew up in and some very interesting real characters that impacted me strongly from a young age. Using those characters and elements, I created a fictional story for Idli Kadai. It’s a film about our culture and my roots.”

Idli Kadai is an interesting Tamil drama written, directed, and co-produced by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films, in association with Dawn Pictures. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran, alongside Dhanush in the lead.

Adding to the anticipation, the film’s music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, marking yet another collaboration between him and Dhanush that fans are eagerly looking forward to. Cinematography is helmed by Kiran Koushik, while Prasanna GK takes charge of editing.

Set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 1, 2025, Idli Kadai promises to be more than just another rural drama. With Dhanush drawing inspiration from his lived experiences, the film is expected to capture the essence of small-town Tamil Nadu, blending nostalgia, culture, and heartfelt storytelling. As fans await the release, one thing is clear — Idli Kadai isn’t just a film for Dhanush, it’s a slice of his childhood served on screen.
