Hiphop/R&B-inspired global girl group XG has announced the release of their re-cut single “IN THE RAIN” this Friday, April 11, ahead of their much-anticipated headlining performance at Coachella 2025. The group recently made headlines by becoming the first Japanese artists ever to be chosen as headliners at the prestigious U.S. music festival, where they’ll be taking over the Sahara Stage, the event’s largest indoor venue, at 22:55 local time this weekend.
Originally featured on XG’s second mini album AWE, which marked their debut on the Billboard 200 chart last November, “IN THE RAIN” is a soulful, R&B-infused track that beautifully blends gentle guitar melodies with the sound of rainfall. The emotional ballad draws a poignant parallel between heartbreak and rain, evoking the quiet power of introspection and emotional healing.
The track has quickly become a fan favourite, particularly after being performed during the group’s “XG 1st WORLD TOUR ‘The first HOWL’”, where its signature choreography featuring umbrellas captured attention for its elegance and emotional depth.
The upcoming release also includes “IN THE RAIN x XDM”, a brand-new version of the track infused with high-energy EDM beats while retaining the emotive core of the original. This fresh interpretation is part of XG’s evolving XDM Series, showcasing their dynamic musical versatility and expanding the soundscape of their signature style.
Alongside the announcement, XG has unveiled stunning new visuals of the group dressed in sleek, tailored suits, hinting at the sophistication and boldness of their latest artistic direction.
This news follows the global success of “IS THIS LOVE”, the group’s recent campaign song for Shiseido’s ANESSA, which is currently airing in TV commercials worldwide.
XG’s Coachella headlining slot is a historic milestone—not only for the group but also for Japanese artists as a whole. With a prime-time performance on the Sahara Stage, the group continues to cement their position as rising global icons.
The group’s world tour will continue through April, with performances in São Paulo, Mexico City, and Seattle, before wrapping up with a grand finale at the Tokyo Dome on May 14. Coinciding with the tour’s conclusion, XG is also set to release their 6th single “MILLION PLACES” on the same day.
