Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the dynamic duo behind the highly anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine, have added a new chapter to their already impressive careers by securing two Guinness World Records titles. The surprise announcement came during an interview on ITV’s This Morning, where the actors were presented with their official certificates.
The first honour went to Reynolds for his co-ownership of Wrexham AFC, with the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, Wales, officially recognized as the oldest international football ground in operation, boasting an impressive 147 years and 31 days of use as of April 5. A visibly thrilled Reynolds expressed his deep connection to his Welsh heritage, stating, “This means so much to me and my Welsh ancestors.”
The second record, shared by both Reynolds and Jackman, celebrated their film's trailer as the most viewed movie trailer in 24 hours. The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, which premiered during Super Bowl LVIII, amassed a staggering 365 million global views across all platforms within a single day. A clearly astonished Reynolds exclaimed, "What? One million for every day of the year, that’s so awesome!"
The record-breaking news added an extra layer of excitement to the already highly anticipated film. The pairing of Deadpool, the irreverent and fourth-wall-breaking mercenary, with Wolverine, the brooding and immortal mutant, is a match made in cinematic heaven. Their on-screen chemistry is expected to be as explosive as their characters' abilities.
Interestingly, the announcement brought full circle a moment from five years prior when Jackman had received his first Guinness World Record on the same show. The actor had long dreamt of holding a world record, and his dedication to the role of Wolverine finally made it a reality. He was recognized for the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero.
Deadpool & Wolverine marks a significant milestone for both actors and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It not only reunites two beloved characters but also brings together a formidable creative team, including director Shawn Levy and producers Kevin Feige and Ryan Reynolds himself. The film promises to be a thrilling blend of action, comedy, and heart, staying true to the Deadpool franchise's signature style while seamlessly integrating into the broader MCU.
The film’s star-studded cast includes returning favorites like Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic, and Rob Delaney. A particularly exciting addition is the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, a character she previously portrayed in the 2003 film Daredevil.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
