Russo Brothers in talks to direct next two Avengers films – Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might be getting the Russo Brothers back at the helm! Reports suggest Joe and Anthony Russo are in early discussions to direct the next two Avengers movies: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (slated for 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). These films are expected to be interconnected, similar to the epic Infinity War and Endgame saga.

Marvel Studios has been on the hunt for directors to take on these ambitious projects. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) initially planned to helm Kang Dynasty but exited in 2023. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) was also considered but reportedly declined. However, Loki creator Michael Waldron is now onboard as the screenwriter for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, while Secret Wars remains writer-less for now.

Report in Variety reveals that Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was recently involved in a legal case. Following his conviction for domestic violence, Marvel Studios severed ties with the actor, forcing a title change for Kang Dynasty.

Production details for the new Avengers films remain under wraps. The Russos are currently focused on their Netflix project, The Electric State, a sci-fi adventure starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, which wrapped filming in late 2022.

The Russo Brothers have a proven track record within the MCU. They've directed four films, including the critically acclaimed Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016).
