Idris Elba, John Cena, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas starrer Heads of State to premiere on Prime Video on July 2, 2025

Prime Video has announced that Heads of State, its upcoming action-comedy starring Idris Elba and John Cena, will premiere globally on July 2, 2025. Directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry, Nobody), the film promises a high-energy blend of explosive action, sharp wit, and nostalgic charm inspired by classic 90s buddy comedies.

Set against the backdrop of global diplomacy gone awry, Heads of State follows the uneasy alliance between two of the world’s most powerful men — U.S. President Will Derringer (Cena) and UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Elba). Known for their very public rivalry, the two leaders are forced to put aside their differences when a dangerous foreign adversary launches a plot that threatens international security. Outmatched and on the run, they must rely on one another — and the expertise of MI6 agent Noel Bisset, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas — to stop the conspiracy and save the free world.

The ensemble cast also includes Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle, and Paddy Considine. This marks the reunion of Cena and Elba following their roles in The Suicide Squad, though this time they are fighting on the same side — albeit reluctantly.

The screenplay is penned by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query, with the story also credited to Query. The film is produced by Peter Safran and John Rickard, with Marcus Viscidi, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, John Cena, and Idris Elba serving as executive producers.

Described as a fast-paced global adventure, Heads of State combines imaginative stunts, international intrigue, and comedic rivalry to deliver a cinematic experience that appeals to action and comedy fans alike. The film will be available in six languages — English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada — reinforcing Prime Video’s continued focus on diverse regional accessibility for global audiences.

Heads of State will stream exclusively on Prime Video starting July 2, 2025.
