Gavin Casalegno reflects on final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty; says, “It really feels like we’re at summer camp”

As the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty approaches, the cast of Prime Video’s hit series looks back on the bond they’ve built both on and off screen. A key part of the show’s appeal lies in the connection between its characters, and actors Christopher Briney (Conrad) and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) share their experience of playing brothers, shaped in part by their off-screen friendship. With the story returning to Cousins Beach one last time, the focus turns to the brothers as Belly’s journey nears its end.

Christopher Briney, who essays the character of Conrad in the series, shared, “I feel lucky that we all get to work together as much as we have. I've loved creating the dynamic of two brothers with you. I think that's really important to the story; it adds an element to every aspect of their life. And it adds an element to their relationship with Belly, because there's always another person at play and at stake, and there's unconditional love for brothers. And so that's always living and breathing.”

Echoing the sentiment, Gavin Casalegno, who plays the character of Jeremiah, added, “I would say getting to work with each other has been so much fun. And there are even scenes, we've had a lot of time off. And I think that's what's created a lot of the character's dynamic, like the hours that we've been on set where we weren't doing anything or we were playing poker or whatever else it was. I remember specifically there was one scene where we were playing poker right before we did it. And I was like using all of the emotions and the things in our poker game into the scene. And, you know, it's just super fun to bring our off-screen dynamic on set. And yeah, it's just been so much fun. It really feels like we're at summer camp.”

The upcoming season is helmed by showrunners Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka, with Han, Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt serving as executive producers alongside Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen for wiip. A co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and wiip, the series features a cast that includes Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard in key roles. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 premieres on July 16 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Thursday until September 17. The series will be available on Prime Video in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
