EXCLUSIVE: Bob Odenkirk on returning as Hutch in Nobody 2, “He’s happy to do this job and have a reason for it”

Hollywood star Bob Odenkirk is back in action mode, reprising his role as Hutch Mansell in the much-anticipated Nobody 2. Following the surprise cult success of the first film, which blended brutal fight sequences with a darkly comedic undercurrent, the sequel promises to double down on Hutch’s dual life as a seemingly ordinary man with extraordinary—and deadly—skills.

In an exclusive quote, Odenkirk reflected on how the creative team approached the sequel’s story, building on the foundations laid in the first film. “At the end of the first film, we knew about Hutch’s violent nature, his abilities and his connection to big, evil secret-agent stuff, so we needed to work with that,” Odenkirk said. “We’ve established a character who secretly/not-so-secretly enjoys beating the living sh*t out of others. He’s happy to do this job and have a reason for it.”

The first Nobody won praise for its kinetic action choreography and subversive twist on the “reluctant hero” trope. Instead of reluctantly using his skills to protect his family, Hutch embraced his violent instincts—turning them into a cathartic release. Odenkirk, best known for his acclaimed dramatic turn in Better Call Saul, stunned audiences with his commitment to the physically demanding role, training extensively to perform many of his own stunts.

With Nobody 2, director Ilya Naishuller is reportedly raising the stakes with bigger set pieces, a broader criminal underworld, and even darker humor. Odenkirk hinted that the sequel will delve deeper into Hutch’s psyche, exploring what happens when a man who has rediscovered his violent purpose no longer tries to hide it.

Production on Nobody 2 has been shrouded in secrecy, but insiders tease a globe-trotting storyline and new formidable enemies for Hutch to face. Fans can expect more bone-crunching action, razor-sharp one-liners, and the same unapologetic energy that made the first film a breakout hit. The film is slated to release in India on August 22.
