Captain America: Brave New World is all set to make its streaming debut on JioHotstar starting May 28, following its successful theatrical run earlier this year in February 2025. The film, which marks a pivotal new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Sam Wilson taking up the shield, introduces a grounded, realistic tone that sets it apart from its predecessors.

Shot extensively in and around Atlanta, Georgia, the production took full advantage of the region’s versatile landscapes and rich visual textures. The creative team, led by veteran production designer Ramsey Avery, collaborated closely with director Julius Onah to build a layered and authentic world—visually rooted in the now.

Ahead of its streaming debut, let’s take a closer look at how the filmmakers brought this new chapter of Captain America to life: “For Brave New World, in particular, Julius wanted the aesthetic to be very specific and feel like it was something that could be happening now within the current space,” said Ramsey Avery. “He also wanted to veer away from those elements that can sometimes take an audience out of the storytelling. It really was important to Julius and Kevin [Feige] that this story felt ‘of the moment’ and mimicked the characters as they move through a very real and honest world.”

While the story spans global locations, the majority of the film was shot at Trilith Studios, with cast and crew traveling to Washington, D.C. to capture key exteriors against iconic landmarks such as the White House, the Capitol Building, and Pershing Park—adding a layer of political immediacy to the film’s geopolitical themes.

Bringing a cinematic edge to this grounded narrative is cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau, who aimed to replicate the feel of classic celluloid using digital cameras—a feat that required rigorous testing and a deep dive into lensing and color theory.

“We wanted to achieve a look that was as close as humanly possible to shooting photochemical film but with digital cameras,” explained Morgenthau. “So, in prep we shot extensive tests and dug deeply into color science and vintage anamorphic lenses to achieve that look. The goal was for the film to pay homage to some of the great paranoid thrillers of the 1970s but also have the visual space for the extensive action and spectacle that Marvel Studios’ films achieve on the highest level.”

Supporting the visual storytelling is costume designer Gersha Phillips, who crafted wardrobe choices that not only align with the film’s tightly woven color palette but also elevate its emotional tone—helping ground the superhero story in a tangible and contemporary reality.
