Billie Eilish speaks out on recent public coming out as queer: “Wasn't it clear?”

Popular singer Billie Eilish came out publicly in November 2023 when she discussed her attraction to women. The singer said that she did not intend to come out through Variety's cover story. “I kind of thought, 'Wasn't it obvious?'” Billie Eilish said at Variety's annual Hitmakers event on December 2. “I didn't realize people didn't know.”

Speaking on the publication’s The Power of Women issue, Eilish said, “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

Now, talking about coming out publicly, she said, “I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, 'Why can’t we just exist?' I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.” She added, “It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, but it’s cool that they know. I am for the girls.”
