Fans are excitedly gearing up for the highly anticipated third season of Prime Video's hit series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, all set to premiere on July 16. Based on Jenny Han's beloved book trilogy, this final season promises to bring the complex love triangle of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah to a poignant close.
For Lola Tung, who stars as the central character Belly, the end of this journey is filled with emotion. "There is heartache that comes with big love stories, and complicated love stories and I hope they are satisfied with the stories and the journeys because Jenny did such a good job with it and we had so much fun filming it and I feel very proud of it," Tung shared, reflecting on the show's evolution.
The series has been a significant part of the cast's lives, particularly for Tung. "There's so much weight and so many feelings and we keep saying bittersweet, but it's the truth," she explained. "I started it when I was 18 and now I am 22 and it changed my life and I think it changed all of our lives, and I'll look back at it really fondly."
Author and series creator Jenny Han acknowledged the immense anticipation from fans regarding certain iconic moments from the books. While she played it coy about specifics, she confirmed, "There are a couple of moments that people really love from the books that I knew that people were wanting to see." However, Han also teased that these beloved moments "might not always happen in the way that you're expecting," promising some delightful surprises for long-time readers. Her ultimate goal was clear: "I wanted to make sure that I was going to really service those fans who've been following the story for a really long time."
Season three picks up at the end of Belly’s junior year of college,as she’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah.
