Andrew Garfield has been cast as the iconic monster alongside Oscar Isaac’s doctor Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming version of Frankenstein. According to a report by Giant Freakin Robot news portal, it is currently unknown whether Guillermo del Toro’s film will be a direct adaptation of Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel or one of the many, many different takes on the source material Hollywood has produced over the years.

“The story follows a young scientist who creates a sapient creature through his unorthodox scientific experiment.” The production of the film is expected to start in June this year. The new adaptation is being produced for Netflix as a part of the Oscar-winning director’s overall deal, which he signed in August 2020.
The Pacific Rim director previously also shared at Variety Awards podcast last year that he has been working on a “monster movie.” Meanwhile on the work front, Garfield previously portrayed Jonathan Larson in the acclaimed biopic musical tick, tick…BOOM!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
His performance earned him a Golden Globe win and an Academy Award nomination. His other credits include The Social Network, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Never Let Me Go and many more.
