The Mirzapur and Darlings actor recently appeared on Rhea Chakraborty’s talk show, where he opened up about his early struggles, emotional turmoil, and a fascinating chapter from his pre-acting days — his stint at a mobile company.

In a candid moment from the show’s newly released promo, Vijay recalled how he once worked selling SIM cards and reported to a boss who owned a large Nokia showroom. “I used to work for a mobile company,” he said. “I was selling SIM cards, and I used to report to this boss who had a big Nokia showroom. If I came back with three sales, he’d ask, ‘Where’s the fourth one?’”

But what truly stood out from the story was Vijay’s bold declaration made back then. “One day, I told him — I’ll put up my photo in your Nokia showroom. I’ll become the brand ambassador,” he recounted with a laugh. “And now, I’ve become successful… but there is no Nokia.”

The anecdote drew laughter from the host, but beneath the humor lay an inspiring reminder of how far the actor has come. From modest beginnings in Hyderabad, where he sold SIM cards to make ends meet, Vijay Varma went on to train at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and eventually earn recognition through acclaimed performances in Gully Boy, Darlings, Mirzapur, among many other films.

During the same conversation, Vijay also reflected on his first-ever experience performing on stage. “When I first stepped foot on stage in a play, I got a clap and a laughter — just one clap. That’s it,” he said, describing how even that single moment of validation fuelled his belief in his craft.

Currently, Vijay Varma stands as one of the most respected actors of his generation — someone who not only fulfilled his early promise but far surpassed it. His story serves as a powerful testament to ambition, perseverance, and the unpredictable roads that lead to success in Bollywood.
