Veteran actor Anupam Kher is currently on cloud nine with a hat-trick of successful films this year in the form of The Kashmir Files, Karthikeya 2 and the recent release Uunchai, which reunited him with Rajshri Productions.
But there was a time when Kher faced severe financial crunch. Looking back at that phase of life, he told Hindustan Times in an interview, “In 2004, because I am not a business-minded person, I almost went bankrupt and then started all over again. I am a sum total of my failures. People started calling me thespian, veteran, and legend, which meant you should be given a lifetime achievement award and walk into the sunset. But I refused to do that.”
From here onwards, Kher did something that not many Indian actors did. “I went abroad and did an American series. After turning 60, people think about retirement, but I started building my body,” he added.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! remains one of Kher’s iconic films where he played a light-hearted character. But not many would know what the actor was going through while shooting the film. “I got facial paralysis before a major scene in HAHK and the doctor had asked me to stay at home for two months and cancel the shooting. I went to the sets and finished the shooting the same day,” said the actor.
