Before superstardom, global recognition, and blockbuster success, Shah Rukh Khan was just another passionate young actor honing his craft in Delhi’s vibrant theatre circuit. Rare photos from that period have now surfaced on social media, taking fans on a nostalgic trip to the actor’s humble beginnings.
The photos were shared by veteran actor Amar Talwar, who was part of the same theatre group helmed by renowned acting coach Barry John. Capturing moments from the 1980s and early 1990s, the pictures include glimpses of Shah Rukh Khan along with fellow actors Divya Seth, the late Rituraj Singh, Deepika Amin, and others.
One particularly striking image shows a young SRK travelling on an outstation train, casually enjoying the breeze while standing at the door - a far cry from the luxurious travel he’s accustomed to today. Another picture captures the entire theatre group mingling and relaxing in nature, as the train halts at a remote station. Dressed in simple clothes and with no signs of the stardom to come, these candid frames reflect an innocence and camaraderie that defined the early days of many aspiring artists.
“Going through my old pics, came across these i'd clicked of Shahrukh Khan (3rd pic with my son, Manoj - @djTally to the world), around 1990, before his departure for Bollywood. Shahrukh and i had acted in a couple of TAG (Barry John's Theatre Action Group) plays together - "Rough Crossing" and "Who's Life Is It Anyway" and then in a third play, "Lend Me A Tenor" Barry cast me in the role he wanted Shahrukh to play but by then Shahrukh had left for Mumbai, Bollywood...and the rest is history - i guess!,” wrote Amar Talwar in the caption of his Instagram post.

He shared multiple photos and videos followed by the post wherein he wrote, “More from that train ride 35 years ago ...Delhi to Kolkata...Divya and Dipika and Shahrukh and Sanjoy and Deepak and Rituraj and Benny and Mohit and I behind the camera and where the hell was Barry?” The photos have since gone viral, with fans expressing both joy and admiration for the journey that Shah Rukh Khan has traversed—from Delhi’s stage lights to the global film arena.
