Marvel Cinematic Universe is teasing its next theatrical release by dropping a official teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder, that hints at what’s in store for our Asgardian Avenger and the biggest moment when Natalie Portman returns as Jane Foster, all set to wield Mjolnir and become the new Mighty Thor. The first look received a whopping 209 million views in its first 24 hours of release which puts the preview in the top tier of Marvel trailers for most views in a day, behind Avengers: Infinity War (230 million) and Avengers: Endgame (289 million).
Set to Guns ‘N Roses’ ‘Sweet Child ‘O Mine,’ the nearly two minutes long teaser opens with a sequence of Thor running in the woods, first as a child, then as a teenager, and finally, as the bulky wonder man wearing the classic costume from the comics with the winged helmet. “These hands were once used for battle, now they’re but humble tools for peace,” he says as he puts aside his new hammer Stormbreaker and watches an intergalactic sunset. “Now I need to figure out exactly who I am.”
After a weight-loss training montage and a heavy workout regime donning a new outfit, Thor leaves the Guardians of the Galaxy behind to find his own path. As Collider notes, while trying to figure out who he really is, Thor will try to imitate Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) theatrical way of meeting his enemies. In the trailer, Thor is seen wearing a jacket that looks just like Quill’s, as Star-Lord rolls his eyes. While Thor is a new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the trailer teases the God of Thunder will split from the team to find his own path.
Thor reflects on how he always used his hands for war. But now, the God of Thunder wants to leave his Asgardian legacy and work for peace. The teaser shows brief glimpses of Thompson’s Valkyrie ruling over New Asgard as its king, a lightning-bolt wielding man - first look at Russell Crowe as Marvel’s version of Greek god Zeus and Thor on a pirate ship kissing an unknown woman. Towards the end, Portman’s Jane Foster calls down Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, which is now magically pieced back together, and debuts her comic-accurate Mighty Thor costume.

The trailer also welcomes back Korg, the rock man voiced by Waititi. There’s no sign of Christian Bale’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher, but the plot description describes him as a killer seeking the extinction of the gods. Thor, Valkyrie, Korg and Jane will have to team up on “a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before its too late.”
Portman made her MCU debut as astrophysicist Jane Foster in 2011's Thor and reprised the role in the 2013 sequel. Jane was last mentioned in Avengers: Endgame, when Thor revealed that they broke up. Now, Portman will not only reprise the role of Jane in Love and Thunder but also wield Mjolnir and assume the mantle of Thor. The upcoming crazy cosmic adventure is Chris Hemsworth's fourth turn in a standalone Thor movie. It'll be director Taika Waititi's second Thor movie, having helmed 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.
The film brings back several familiar faces from the MCU, including Waititi, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Tessa Thompson and Jaimie Alexander. Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth and Melissa McCarthy will make cameo appearances. In addition to these stars, Christian Bale joins the franchises as Gorr the God Butcher, the villain of the movie, and Russell Crowe will play the role of Zeus, the Marvel character derived from the mythical Greek king of gods.
