Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has responded to online trolls who criticised her for wearing footwear while hosting the national flag on India's 77th Independence Day. For the unversed, the actress took to social media to share a video of herself proudly hoisting the Indian flag, flanked by her family - husband Raj Kundra, children Viaan and Samisha Raj Kundra, and her mother Sunanda Shetty.
Accompanied by the caption "Vande Mataram," Shilpa's post initially garnered praise, but it was soon clouded by trolls. However, refusing to let the negativity overshadow the day's significance, Shilpa Shetty responded directly to the critics in the comments section.

In a well-articulated response, she expressed her awareness of the "Rules" governing flag hoisting and emphasised her heartfelt respect for the country and its flag. She stated, "I am a proud Indian. Today's post was to share and celebrate that emotion. To all the trollers (that I ignore usually) DO NOT appreciate YOU airing your ignorance and spreading negativity on this Day. So get your facts right and please BACK OFF."
Backing up her stance, Shilpa shared a screenshot of her Google search page confirming that the "flag code of India does not restrict hoisting of the national flag with shoes on." Captioned "#facts" and accompanied by the Indian flag emoji, her Instagram Stories post further solidified her response.
Coming to the professional front, the 48-year-old actress was last seen in Nikamma, which was released in 2022. She is currently awaiting the release of her debut web show, Indian Police Force, helmed by Rohit Shetty.
