Amidst the ongoing tension between Shia LaBeouf and director Olivia Wilde, Shia LaBeouf has now offered a short response to Wilde’s claims of having fired LaBeouf as he was a disruptive force during the making of her psychological thriller drama Don't Worry Darling.
“It is what it is,” LaBeouf told The Hollywood Reporter. “Every blessing to her and her film.”
Shia LaBeouf kicked up a media frenzy when — ahead of Don’t Worry Darling’s September 5 world premiere at the Venice Film Festival — he released a series of emails, and a video from director Olivia Wilde in an effort to disprove Wilde’s claims of having fired him from the film. Olivia Wilde had again insisted that she chose to fire the 36-year-old actor, in an interview with Vanity Fair published on Thursday, citing his on-set behavior and her responsibility to Pugh as reasons she let him go.
“My responsibility was towards [Florence],” Wilde told Vanity Fair. “I’m like a mother wolf. Making the call was tricky, but in a way he understood. I don’t think it would’ve been a process he enjoyed. He comes at his work with an intensity that can be combative.”
“It wasn’t the ethos that I demand in my productions,” she continued. “I want him to get well and to evolve because I think it’s a great loss to the film industry when someone that talented is unable to work.” Yet LaBeouf has denied that he was fired, countering that he actually quit the production due to a "lack of rehearsal time."
Don't Worry Darling had its premiere at Venice Film Festival 2022. It releases on September 23.
