Actress Saumya Tandon, known for her role in the recently released Bollywood film Dhurandhar, addressed online criticism of the movie in a thoughtful response on Twitter. The discussion began after a self-proclaimed psychologist cum influencer criticized the film, suggesting that male leads in Bollywood exploit aggression and misogyny under the guise of “masculinity” to gain box-office success, also citing stars like Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.
One Twitter user pushed back, noting that Dhurandhar actually portrays strong female characters. The user pointed out that Saumya’s character slaps Akshaye Khanna’s character, while Sara Arjun’s character slaps Ranveer Singh’s, arguing that the critic’s points misrepresented the film.
Responding to the comment, Saumya Tandon wrote, “Agreed. In the universe Dhurandhar is set in, with the societal norms the director chose to depict, it is a male-dominated world, yet the women are treated with dignity. They aren’t beaten, objectified, or shown as one of many wives, even though that society could have allowed it. It’s important to remember we’re dealing with a very different world.”

She further added, “Sorry that the grain of this story doesn’t allow for glamorous heroines singing songs on exotic beaches, that may work for other scripts, but not in this one. That said, as an actor, I do hope I also get opportunities to be part of women-centric narratives.”
Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun, has been making waves at the box office with its intense performances and action-packed sequences.
