Salman Khan's lawyer argued that the Consumer Commission lacks jurisdiction and called the complaint “unnecessary harassment."

Salman Khan has responded to a complaint accusing him of endorsing a misleading pan masala advertisement, stating before the Kota Consumer Court that he only promoted silver-coated cardamom and not gutkha. The actor issued a detailed clarification through his lawyer, who also requested an inquiry into the authenticity of the signatures submitted with Khan’s response.

The controversy began after a complaint was filed alleging that advertisements featuring Salman Khan for a pan masala brand were misleading. The matter is currently being heard in the Kota Consumer Court, with the next hearing set for December 9.

Representing the actor, Advocate Ashish Dubey argued that the Consumer Commission does not have the jurisdiction to entertain the complaint. He asserted that Salman Khan “is neither a manufacturer nor a service provider for pan masala,” describing the allegations as legally baseless. Dubey further claimed that the complainant had dragged Khan into the dispute without grounds, resulting in “unnecessary harassment.”

Reiterating the actor’s stance, the advocate emphasized that Khan never endorsed gutkha or pan masala. Instead, he promoted only silver-coated cardamom, which does not fall under the category of pan masala thereby weakening the basis of the complaint.

Meanwhile, the complainant, Pradeep Instructor Singh Hani, has objected to the response filed on Khan’s behalf. He alleged that the signatures on the document “do not appear to be Salman Khan’s genuine ones” and urged the court to direct the actor to appear personally for signature verification.

The complaint, filed earlier by senior BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey, also seeks a ban on such advertisements. It claims that the brand, Rajshree Pan Masala, and its ambassador have misled consumers by promoting the product as containing “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala.” The petitioner argued that saffron, costing nearly Rs 4 lakh per kilogram, cannot realistically be included in a product priced at just Rs 5.
