Divya Dutta in the book 'The Stars In My Sky: Those Who Brightened My Film Journey' has written highly on various celebrities and filmmakers that influenced her life and her film journey. One of the chapters in the second half of the book is dedicated to superstar Salman Khan. Many might not recollect but both had worked in the film Veergati (1995).
Divya revealed that she had a huge crush on him ever since she saw him romancing in the song 'Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali' in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). As luck would have it, she got a chance to work with him in Veergati, which was her second film. She played the role of Salman Khan's sister in this flick.
Regarding working with the superstar, Divya Dutta said, "Salman is one of the most supportive stars I have worked with - no airs and a superb, subtle sense of humour". She also observed, "I realized that Salman Khan is a very intelligent actor. Knowing well what works for the audience, he delivers just that".
Divya Dutta then shares an interesting anecdote regarding the scene where her character is supposed to die. That day, Salman Khan was done with his work that day and was leaving early. Divya sadly was not able to get her act right. An assistant told Salman when he was about to get into his car about this problem.
Salman immediately came back to the set. He saw that Divya was in tears and she told him that "I am unable to die". At this, Salman laughed like crazy. He then told her that it's not that difficult and that he'll help her by performing the scene from a distance. He also promised that if she cracked it, he'll treat her.
Salman Khan then lay on the dusty ground from a distance and guided her. When the director said 'Action', she merely looked at him and followed him to the T. When she felt she was unable to hold her breath, Salman did the countdown from one to ten to help her.
Thankfully, the shot was okayed. An emotional Divya Dutta went and hugged the superstar. A chilled out Salman Khan made it seem like it was no big deal. He simply brushed the dust from her clothes and left. The next day, as he had promised, he treated her with lunch.
Divya Dutta then wrote that thanks to Salman Khan, she now remembers to be there for cues for her co-actors and to be there for a newcomer.
