President of India Droupadi Murmu expressed deep grief over the passing of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Dharmendra, calling it a significant loss to Indian cinema.

The official X handle of the President shared her message, stating, “The demise of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Shri Dharmendra Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. One of the most popular actors, he delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long illustrious career. As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers.”

Dharmendra died on November 24 at the age of 89 at his Mumbai residence, nearly two weeks after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital where he was admitted following complaints of breathlessness. The actor, who would have turned 90 on December 8, leaves behind an unmatched body of work across genres—from romance and comedy to action drama—cementing his reputation as one of Indian cinema’s most beloved stars.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered the late actor with an emotional tribute. He wrote, “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played… Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth.”
As tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, the film fraternity and fans alike are remembering Dharmendra not only for his cinematic brilliance but also for his humility, generosity, and warmth—qualities that endeared him to generations.
Dharmendra was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Hours before news of his death broke online, Maddock Films unveiled his character poster from their upcoming film Ikkis, marking one final glimpse of the legend on screen.
