The sports icon, fondly known as the “Payyoli Express,” posted a touching note on social media on November 25, recounting an incident from 1986 that left a lasting imprint on her life.

Remembering Dharmendra with affection and respect, Usha wrote, “In 1986, after winning 4 (gold medal emoji) & 1 (silver medal emoji) at the Asian Games, Dharmendra ji sent me Rs. 50,000/- cash prize for my achievement. We couldn't meet personally due to our busy schedules but sometimes love & affection are enough to keep the hearts connected even 1000 miles apart. RIP.” Along with the note, she shared a throwback photograph of Dharmendra from the 1970s, where the actor appears in his trademark charismatic avatar — a reminder of the stature and charm that made him one of Indian cinema’s most adored stars.

He had been battling health complications for weeks and was undergoing treatment after being admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier that month. The actor breathed his last at his residence and was cremated at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu in a private ceremony attended by his family and close industry colleagues.
